Et voilà, je suis rentrée en Belgique il y a 2heures. J'ai définitivement quitté l'Angleterre. Il est donc temps de dire aurevoir à ce blog qui m'a accompagné durant 1 an et demi et de vous remercier d'avoir suivi mes aventures rocambolesques avec mes geeks, mes vélos, mes problèmes administratifs en tous genres, mes expériences farfelues....

C'est avec un petit pincement au coeur que je vous dis aurevoir et vais clôturer ce blog. Je vais néanmoins recommencer un nouvau blog très bientôt pour que vous puissiez continuer à suivre mes aventures à Bruxelles et je posterai le lien ici dans les jours à venir.

Merci à tous d'avoir été là. C'était très chouette de partager mes expériences avec vous.

Here we go ! I arrived in Belgium 2 hours ago. I definitively left UK. So that's time for me, now, to say goodbye to this blog after 1 year and a half and to thank you for the reading of my crazy stories with my geeks, my bikes, my misc administrative problems, my weird experiments...

I'm a bit sad to say goodbye to you and to finish this blog. However, I'll start a new blog soon; so you'll be able to follow my adventures in Brussels. I'll post the link to this new blog once it will be born.

Les Pubs de Cambridge

Avant de quitter Cambridge, il faut que je vous parle d'une grande particularité anglaise : les PUBs.
Before leaving Cambridge, I would like to talk a bit about the English pubs.

Les PUBs sont des genres de cafés.
A pub is a kind of "café".

Au niveau de l'aspect intérieur, y a des tapis partout, des chaises et des tables en bois, une déco à l'ancienne, des cadres chargés, généralement un feux ouvert, un superbe bar avec des pompes retro. L'ambiance y est conviviable et chaleureuse. On peut y boire et y manger. Il est interdit d'y fumer.
On paye sa commande (boisson et nourriture) au bar en donnant son numéro de table et des serveurs nous amènent notre commande.
On peut commander à manger le soir jusqu'à 21H et les pubs ferment vers 23H.
The Inside of the pub is very particular: there are rugs everywhere, wood chairs and tables, an old fashioned decoration, a lot of old frames, a fireplace, a beautiful bar with old pumps. The atmosphere is friendly and warm. You can drink and eat there. You mustn't smoke. You pay your order (food and drink) directly to the bar, giving your table number. Afterwards, you wait for a waiter brings your meal. You can order until 9pm and the pubs close at 11pm.

Personnellement j'apprécie beaucoup l'aspect non fumeur et le fait de commander de la nourriture au Bar directement. C'est tellement plus facile.
I really like the fact that the pubs are "no smokers" and I like to order directly to the bar rather than waiting for.

L'aspect extérieur des PUBs est également très reconnaissable (cf : photo ci-jointes).
That's really easy to recognize pubs thanks to their outside appearance (cf: pictures).

Il y a de bon pubs et de mauvais PUBs. En Angleterre, beaucoup de PUBs sont des PUBs "Green King", c'est-à-dire qu'ils sont franchisés et qu'on y trouve toujours la même mauvaise bière commerciale.
A côté de ces PUBS il y a des "free house", où l'on trouve de la bière venant de petits producteurs locaux et qui ont un choix de bières beaucoup plus varié que les PUBs "Green king". C'est dans ceux-là qu'il faut aller.
There is good and bad pubs. In UK, a lot of pubs have the label: "Green King"; it means that they are affiliated and that you always find the same awful beer in Green King pubs. Next to these pubs, there are "Free houses" where you can find beers coming from local breweries and where there is a better choice of beers. You have to go in these second kind of pubs.

J'aimerais vous recommender quelques pubs que j'ai beaucoup aimé :
I would like to recommend you really nice pubs:

1) Le Blue

Ce pub, en plus de proposer une grande variété de bières anglaises propose également bon nombre de bières belges et allemandes. Le Blue est renommé pour sa qualité de bière. J'ai dégusté au blue des bières belges qu'on ne trouve pas facilement en Belgique, dans le verre adapté.
En tant que Belge, je peux dire que ce pub fût un plaisir et m'a souvent fait me sentir chez moi.
De plus, le Blue organise de temps en temps des festivals de la bière, ce qui est bien sympa.
This pub sells a lot of English beers but also Belgian and German beers. The Blue is famous for his beers' quality. I drunk, in this pub, Belgian beers difficult to find in Belgium, in the proper glass. As a Belgian, I can say that this pub was a pleasure and made me feel like home. Additionaly, the Blue organises Beers festivals, times to times, which is quite cool.

2) Le Kingston Arms

Petit pub anglais typique fort sympathique où la nourriture est bonne et l'ambiance chaleureuse. Lieu de réunion de beaucoup d'associations. Vous y trouverez de nombreuses bières anglaises. Il se situe dans la rue parallèlle au Blue.
This is a little English pub really nice where the food is good and the atmosphere is friendly. This pub is a place of meeting for a lot of associations. You can find, there, a lot of English beers. This pubs is localized in a parallel street to the Blue.

3) Le Geldart

Pub spacieux assez classe tenu par un italien. Récemment rénové, ce Pub est actuellement connu pour ses délicieuses pierrades. Si vous êtes amateurs de bonnes viandes, c'est là qu'il faut aller.
This is a large classy pub. The boss is Intlian. The pub is quite new and is famous for their meat on the rocks. If you like meat, you have to go there.

4) La Mytre

Pub plus central, à 2 pas du Collège St John où l'ambiance est très chaleureuse et le style très victorien. Leur nourriture est pas chère, bonne et bien nourrisante. Je recommande les camamberts braisés.
This pub is quite central, near the St John College. The atmosphere is warm and the style is Vicorian. The food is not expensive, good and nourishing. I recommend the baby "camamberts".

En rentrant de vacances comme toujours, j'ai dû constater un décès : celui de mon plant de basilic. Paix à son âme!

À chaque fois que je m'absente plus de 2 jours, je retrouve, en rentrant, un petit cadavre dans ma cuisine, mort de soif.

Moralité : les hommes sont incapables d'arroser une plante.

Mesdames, si vous vous reconnaissez dans ce fait divers, je compatis.

On returning from holiday as usual, I found a death body in my kitchen : my basil plan. Every time, I'm away more than 2 days, I find a corpse died of thirst, in my kitchen when I come back

Schedule ! Horaire!

As you know, we will go back in Belgium soon. So that's time to plan the schedule for the next month:

- 26/01 - 5/02 : Guillaume and I will be in Senegal (Dakar) for 10 days.
- 5 /02 - 7/02 : FOSDEM in Bruxelles. I'll stay in Belgium until 10/02.
- Staturday 13/02 : Goodbye party in UK. So put the date in your organiser !
- I'll probably leave Cambridge around 20/02 and Guillaume a bit after.

Comme vous le savez, nous rentrons en Belgique bientôt. Donc il est temps pour nous de plannifier notre horaire pour le mois prochain :

- 26/01 - 5/02 : Guillaume et moi serons au Senegal pour 10 jours.
- 5 /02 - 7/02 : FOSDEM à Bruxelles. Je reste à BXL jusqu'au 10/02.
- Samedi 13/02 : Soirée d'adieux. Donc mettez bien la date dans votre agenda.

Looking for a job! À la recherche d'un emploi !

Depuis 2 bonnes semaines, je suis en opération : "Recherche d'un travail". C'est-à-dire que je passe mes journées sur Internet à rechercher des offres d'emploi, à créer des CVs online, à envoyer des candidatures spontanées à gauche, à droite.

Je recherche un travail axé sur la culture au sens large, à Bruxelles, où je pourrais mettre à profit mon anglais et mes qualités organisationnelles.
Travailler dans un musée, travailler dans une bibliothèque, dans un fond d'archives, organiser des évènements culturels, traduire, rédiger, avoir une interaction humaine, faire des visites guidées, faire de la recherche historique sur différents sujets et cela dans n'importe quel domaine culturel (histoire de la musique, histoire du cinéma, histoire de la bande dessinée, de l'architecture, de la médecine, du vêtement, histoire générale,...).
J'aimerais aussi mettre à profit mes connaissances Internet et de bureautique informatique. Ce qui pourrait m'ouvrir une autre piste pour travailler dans le monde de la communication (Internet, téléphones, moteur de recherches...).
J'aimerais beaucoup trouver un travail pour lequel je peux utiliser mon anglais pour ne pas le perdre, maintenant que je vais rentrer en Belgique.

Je suis vraiment ouverte à plein de possibilités. C'est ça qui est chouette et je me demande franchement où je vais terminer par travailler ! L'avenir nous le dira.

Je serai disponible sur le marché du travail dès mars 2010.

I started to send my CV around, 2 weeks ago. So the mission "Finding a job" started for me. It means that I spend my life on Internet searching jobs' offers in Brussels and sending CVs online.

I'm looking for a job focussed on general culture, in Brussels. I really would like to use my English and my organisation skills in my future job.
Working in a museum, in a library, in archives, organising cultural events, translating, writing, having human contacts and interaction with people, beeing tour(ist) guide, dooing historical searches on a lot of subjects (it could be history of music, history of cinema, history of comics, history of architecture, history of medicine, history of clothes, general history,...).
I could also use my Internet knowledge and skills to find a job in communication (Internet, Search Engines, phones companies).
I really would like to use my English because I don't want to forget it!

I'm open to a lot of possibilities. So I don't know what will be my next job but wait and see!

I'll be ready to work in Brussels on the beginning of March 2010.

1) Je devais passer à la banque au centre de Cambridge et Guillaume n'a rien trouvé de mieux que de m'y accompagner avec 2 immenses paquets de rouleaux de papier toilette !
1) I had to go to the bank in the city center of Cambridge and Guillaume decided to go with me with 2 huge pack of toilet paper rolls!

2) Aujourd'hui, j'ai invité à boire un café, chez moi, un parfait inconnu nigérien qui m'avait aidé à porter mes paquets de courses jusqu'à chez moi. C'était bizarre, sympa et super drôle.
2) Today, I invited somebody from Nigeria I didn't know to drink a cup of coffee to my place because he helps me to carry my bags from asda to my place. That was weird, nice and really funny.

2010, what happens next ?

I gave my resignation letter 2 weeks ago and I know that several people are wondering what we (Guillaume and I) are planning to do in a near future : staying in England or going back in Belgium? So that's times for me to reply to this question.

Actually, I left Taptu for a simple reason : Guillaume and I decided few weeks ago to go back to live in Belgium (Brussels). We are planning to leave UK around the end of February, after 1 year and a half living in Cambridge.

Note that Guillaume will continue to work for Collabora but from Belgium, don't worry ; )

Why did we decide to go back ?

That's difficult to explain because that is all about feelings. And I think that you can only understand that if you lived in a foreign country during a while.

However, if I can explain some of my personal reasons:

1) Cambridge is a nice city but too small for me. That's always the same streets, the same things. I want to discover new landscapes!

2) I don't want to share a house anymore. I'm too old for this stuff! I want to live with Guillaume as a couple without housemates anymore.
In UK, renting a house or a flat for 2 is too expensive. That's why we had thought to buy a house at a certain moment. But if you buy, you have other troubles, you have to stay in the house several years to make profit of it... I wasn't sure I wanted to stay in England 5 years, so at the end of the day we decided not to buy.

3) I don't drive (no driving licence) so, when I travel that's always by bike or train or bus or taxi. Train is really expensive in England, so I don't have the opportunity to move a lot. As a result I spend my life in Cambridge and I have the feeling to be in a cage as I explained in my point 1.

4) Cambridge is a big village where everything closes early. I'm used to live in a big city, to go to the theatre, to the restaurant, to go out late, to take the subways/undergrounds, to see friends, to invite people to my place, to go to friends' place, to have passionated arguments with friends and family about politics,... I put all these things in my freezer when I came in UK and I have to say that I miss more and more my social and cultural life from Brussels.

5) I realized that English people and Belgians have a really different conception of the friendship and the intimacy. In Belgium, friends invite friends in their private life, in their intimacy. A couple will invite another couple of friends to have a long diner around a wine bottle to their house. A friend will invite a single friend to do stuff with him even if their are not close friends (shopping, walking, ...) or if they've just met.
Of course we have also group's gatherings but that's something else. We can see people together but also individually.
In England, that's different. People go out a lot but in public places (pubs for example) and in groups but they rarely invite single people to their place. English people invite people in their place but for a big party and never for a little dinner. As a result that is quite difficult to have intimacy or to become close to somebody because people see each other always in a group with several people.

For example, this year a lot of parties were to our place. We invited a lot of people but we have never seen the place of all our guests. That's weird.
In another hand, few times I had cool things to do with another single person in Cambridge, it was with other foreigners, just like us (Mathilde from Senegal, Alban from France, Sabine from Germany...). As you can notice, that's really difficult to become intimate and close of an Englishman or woman.
In the same kind of idea, the English people show the distance directly between people by the absence of kiss to say hello. Sometimes they hug when they didn't see each other for a while.
In Belgium, we kiss each other on the cheek to say hello and goodbye.
That's one of the things that touch me the most when I arrived in UK : this distance between people directly shown by the physical distance.

I don't like this polite distance. I like to kiss people and to be kissed. I like to invite friends to eat, to go to friends place, to sleep to my best friend house, to invite friends to sleep in my place. I like to be close to people and to fell intimacy and deep friendship. I have a south mentality, that's why I'll never understand England on that point : )

There are also other reasons that I could call : "homesick".

BUT there are also a lot of things I discovered in UK that I will miss, of course:

1) I'll miss lot of people.

2) I like the English spirit of companies and the polite and nice atmosphere of work life.

3) I like the idea of seasonal parties : Spring party - Summer party - Autumn party - Christmas party!

4) I like to cycle in Cambridge. I had a lot of unfortune with my bikes but bikes are ecologic, healthy. You are on form after that. Last year I never had pain in my legs or in my back. Cycling is really great!

5) I like to go to work cycling and to have a job close to my place.

6) The center of Cambridge and the college are wonderful.

7) Cambridge is a great place to meet people from around the world. Even if after it' s difficult to continue to see each other, at least you develop your tolerance spirit and you learn a lot about other cultures.

8) Cambridge is calm and sometimes that's good to rest!

9) I love the VISA debit card!

10) There are not a lot of taxes on the work (only 20%). That's great if you compare to Belgium!

11) I like to play squash with my colleague Sabine.

12) I like Collabora people, their party, the atmosphere of the company. I'll miss all that.

13) I like the fact to speak fluently 2 languages!

... and there are other reasons again.

So, I know that when you choose, you renounce in the same times. I did my choice.
I tried to explain my principal reasons of leaving but there are of course other reasons in the both part of the scales.

2010 et maintenant?

Ma démission de chez Taptu, la semaine passée a suscitée quelques interrogations pour certains d'entre vous quant à mon futur en Angleterre et il est temps de répondre à ces questions.

La raison pour laquelle j'ai quitté Taptu est simple : depuis un petit temps, Guillaume et moi pensons rentrer vivre en Belgique, sur Bruxelles. Nous comptons rentrer au alentour de fin février, début mars, après 1 an et demi de vie à Cambridge.

Notons que Guillaume reste chez Collabora - pas de panique - et continuera à travailler pour eux de la Belgique.

Pourquoi rentrons-nous ?

C'est difficile à expliquer. C'est surtout des choses qui se ressentent et que l'on comprend plus facilement si on est parti loin de chez soi pendant longtemps ...

Mais si je devais résumer les raisons personnelles qui me poussent à rentrer, ce sont les suivantes :

1) Cambridge c'est bien, mais c'est trop petit. Après un an et demi, j'en ai fait le tour. Je suis passée 300 fois dans les mêmes rues, les même lieux. J'ai envie de changer de décors.

2) Marre de la collocation. Je vieillis. J'ai envie mon chez moi : ma maison ou mon apart avec Guillaume.
En Angleterre, c'est trop cher pour prendre un apart ou une maison à 2. Il faudrait acheter, ce à quoi on avait pensé mais alors il faut rester en Angleterre quelques années pour rentabiliser la chose.

3) Ne conduisant pas, je suis fort dépendante des transports en commun et du train pour voyager. En Angleterre, le train est trop cher pour voyager beaucoup, j'ai donc l'impression d'être repliée exclusivement sur Cambridge et j'en reviens au point 1.

4) Cambridge c'est un grand village et tout ferme tôt. Je suis habituée en tant que citadine à aller au théâtre le soir, au restaurant, à prendre le métro, à voir du monde, à aller manger chez des copains, à en inviter, à avoir des discussions les plus vives sur des sujets politiques enflammés avec ma famille et mes amis historiens, .... j'ai mis tout ça au frigo en vivant à Cambridge et cette vie culturelle et sociale allant de paire avec ma vie à Bruxelles commence à vraiment me manquer.

5) Les Anglais ont une conception de l'amitié et de l'intimité très différente des Belges. En Belgique, on s'invite à manger entre couples, on sort à 2 entre amis de temps en temps, on s'invite chez soi, on invite l'autre personne dans son monde, dans sa sphère privée.
En Angleterre, ce n'est pas comme ça. Les gens sortent en groupe, dans un lieu public (pub ou autre) mais s'invitent très rarement chez eux en tête à tête. S'ils invitent des gens chez eux c'est dans le cadre d'une grosse fête avec plein de gens. Il est donc très difficile de se nouer d'amitié ou d'avoir une intimité avec une personne vu que toutes les relations sont assez superficielles.

Par exemple, cette année, les fêtes se sont déroulées essentiellement chez nous. Et les rares fois où j'ai vu des gens ou fait des choses avec des gens seul à seul c'était avec des non natifs, des étrangers comme nous :- ) Preuve qu'il est très difficile de devenir proche d'un Anglais.
Dans ce même ordre d'idée, les Anglais montrent la distance rien que par le "pas de bisou". Juste des hugs si on est très proche et qu'on ne s'est pas vu depuis longtemps.
C'est une des choses qui m'a le plus marqué en arrivant en UK, cette distance, qu'on montre aux gens dès le départ, par la distance physique.

Je n'aime pas cette distance trop polie. J'aime faire des bisous et en recevoir. J'aime partager mes microbes, inviter des amis à manger, aller manger chez des amis, aller dormir chez mon meilleurs pote, qu'il vienne dormir chez moi. J'aime me sentir proche des gens et pas seule. J'ai une mentalité du sud!
En ça, je ne me ferai jamais à l'Angleterre.

Il y a encore d'autres raisons que je pourrais qualifier de "mal du pays".

Je pense aussi que par le fait même d'être étrangers, on ne se sentira jamais aussi bien que dans son lieu d'origine entouré de ses proches de longue date. There is no place like home!

À côté de ça, il y a aussi plein de choses que j'ai découvertes en Angleterre et qui me manqueront bien sûr :

1) Plusieurs personnes vont me manquer.

2) J'aime l'esprit d'entreprise anglais et le monde du travail très poli et sympa.

3) J'aime beaucoup le concept des fêtes d'entreprise à chaque saison : Spring party - Summer party - Autumn party - Christmas party!

4) J'aime le fait de me déplacer à vélo à Cambridge. J'ai pesté sur mes vélos plusieurs fois, mais c'est écologique, c'est bon pour la santé et ça maintient en forme. Je n'ai plus jamais mal au dos ni aux jambes. Le vélo c'est vraiment super!

5) J'aimais pouvoir me rendre à vélo de ma maison à mon boulot.

6) Le centre de Cambridge et les Colleges sont magnifiques.

7) Cambridge est génial pour rencontrer des gens des quatre coins du monde. Même si après on ne les revoit plus beaucoup mais en attendant ça ouvre l'esprit, ça permet de développer son esprit de tolérance et d'apprendre plein de choses sur d'autres cultures.

8) Cambridge respire le calme et parfois ça fait du bien.

9) J'adore le fait d'avoir une carte de VISA débit !

10) J'aime le fait de ne pas avoir beaucoup de taxes sur mon travail (20% seulement). En Belgique, ça va faire mal !

11) J'aime jouer au squash avec Sabine, ma collègue.

12) J'aime beaucoup les gens de Collabora, les fêtes de Collabora, l'ambiance de cette entreprise. Ils vont tous me manquer.

13) J'aime pouvoir parler 2 langues.

.... et il y en a encore

Enfin voilà, tout choix implique un renoncement. Et j'ai choisis. Il y a encore bien sûr plusieurs raisons de part et d'autres de la balance mais ce sont les raisons principales.

Ce petit post pour rendre la nouvelle officielle. J'ai quitté Taptu, hier après 1 an et 2 mois de travail dans cette startup. C'était mon premier boulot et ce n'est pas sans émotion que j'ai dis aurevoir à tous mes collègues.

Guillaume a fait un plugin ARTE pour Moovida. Il en avait déjà fait un pour les programmes de la RTBF.
Ceci signifie que via le programme gratuit, libre, Moovida à installer sur votre ordi, vous pouvez regarder en podcast vos émissions TV favorites pour ces 2 chaînes. Mais pas seulement ces 2 chaînes... Rob et Philippe ont enfilé leur costume de Père Noël et ça y est, les grands enfants de Collabora ont reçu leur jouet pour Noël : un N900, le nouveau smartphone de Nokia.

Ça faisait des jours qu'ils attendaient la livraison de ces N900 chez Collabora, en scrutant par la fenêtre et en sursautant à chaque camion passant dans la rue.
Et ça y est, ils ont reçu leur livraison ce mercredi, 9 décembre.

Guillaume ne se sentait plus, je ne l'avais jamais vu si excité et il m'a tout de même lâché que le N900 était son "nouveau meilleur ami". Désolé les gars!

Rob and Phil put their santa claus costume and offered toys to their Collabora children. Indeed, the employees received their new toy : a N900, the new Nokia smartphone.

It was the BIG event. They had been all exicted like little children for days, looking at the window each 5 sec to see if a delivery truck was comingt in the street with the precious N900.
Finally, on Wednesday, 2 days ago, Collabora received 49 N900 they had ordered.

Guilaume was so exicted. I had never seen him like that; He even told me that the N900 will become his new best friend. Sorry guys!

Saint-Verhaegen : 20th November

On the 20th November Guillaume and I went back to Belgium to go the the St Verhaegen, the anniversary of our University (ULB). That's a huge event for the students from Brussels.

What's exactly the St Verheagen?

Theodore Verheagen was the founder of the university of Brussels in 1834 (20th November); so, each year, on the 20th November, students celebrate him with an huge parade in Brussels center.

Most student unions rent trucks for the occasion, which are decorated in accordance with the year's theme. Each truck has a large number of casks of beer inside (Kriek, Jupiler, other..) and some students serve beer to the others during all the day, with an all-you-can-drink payment scheme around 10 euros.

There is also musician in the street, a lot of animation, and of course a lot of drunk people.

The students first meet at the Sablon at the begin of the afternoon and after several hours, the trucks start to move towards the Brussel Stock exchange. The parade is finished around 8pm. So the trucks go back to the University where the painting board are burnt.

The St V is the occasion to see a lot of old friends, to drink a lot of beer and to spend a really nice afternoon.

Last weekend some Guillaume's friends came to England for the Guillaume's birthday. It was a surprise. This article is the way for me to thank them again for their really nice visit.
We discovered (finally) the London Bridge we had never seen before on Saturday and on Sunday, Guillaume bought his first suit, in Cambridge in a very smart suit shop. Actually, buying a suit for Guillaume was the gift of Bigon, Pizza Hut and Staz. So, they can say, now, that they bought the first suit of Guillaume, which is quite a great gift! Photos will come.

Le weekend passé certains copains de Guillaume lui ont fait la surprise de venir en Angleterre pour son anniversaire. C'était super chouette et cet article est l'occasion pour moi de les remercier encore une fois d'avoir fait le déplacement et d'avoir acheté à Guillaume un super cadeau. Ce fut l'occasion pour nous de passer la journée de samedi à Londres et de découvrir le fameux pont de Londres. Par ailleurs, dimanche, Guillaume a acheté son premier costard à Cambridge dans une boutique très classe. En fait, ce costume est le cadeau de Bigon, Staz et PH pour l'anniversaire de Guillaume qui peuvent dire fièrement maintenant, qu'ils ont acheté à Guillaume son premier costume. Le costume est chez le tailleur mais promis, des photos viendront.

Today I've learnt a lot of crazy things:

1) There is a specific typography for computer. It means that the way we write ! ? () ; , : ... on a computer is important. °_O

2) This computer typography is depanding on the language you write.

3) If you want to kill a geek you just have to type some sentences with the wrong typography.

4) Software engineers are completely obsessed by typography. Try to talk a bit about that during an evening and everybody will begin to shout in the room talking about coding...

Indeed, Collabora people were totally shocked when I told them that I had no idea there were rules of typography for computer and that I had never learnt about that at the University (Note that I studied History in Philosophy & Letter faculty! )...
Of course we don't have any lesson about that. Our teachers are too old and unable to use a computer. We know the handwriting rules but not the computer writing rules!
Each time I write, I pay attention to the spelling but not at all to the space between ( ) or ; or wathever...
From my point of view, a computer is just a way of transcoding the way I would write by hand. So I just put a space when I have a handwriting space; my rules of typography stop there.

I was really surprised to learn that:

My first acrylic painting !

Mon poster préféré est tout abîmé (depuis des années que je l'ai). Et comme je l'adore j'ai décidé il y a quelques jours de le reproduire moi-même en peinture.
Je n'ai jamais vraiment peint avant maintenant. Après les conseils de mon petit frère et de mon papa qui peignent, j'ai décidé de me mettre aux peintures acryliques. J'ai découvert un super marchand de matériel d'art et peinture ici à Cambridge (Kingstreet) et je me suis faite plaisir ce weekend en achetant une toile et un set de peinture acrylique.
Je suis hyper contente car voici le résultat final de ma toile après 3 soirées :

I've never really painted before. I asked advives to my little brother and to my father who paint, both and I decided to begin acrylic painting. I discovered a really nice art and painting store on Kingstreet (Cambridge) last weekend, so I bought an acrylic set of painting and a canvas.
I'm really happy because I get a nice final result after 3 evenings, as you can see below :

Je suis convaicue par la peinture acrylique : ça sèche vite, ça ne sent rien, c'est propre, ça se mélange bien, on peut se créer toute une palette de couleurs soi-même, ça peut se diluer, le matériel se nettoie à l'eau (pas besoin de white spirit!)... Un rêve!
Et en plus je suis pas trop nulle, donc, je me dis que je devrais m'y mettre...Une nouvelle passion est née ;)

I was convinced by the acrylic painting : it becomes dry really quickly, it doesn't smell anything, it's clean, you can easily mix the colors and get lot of nice colors by yourself, you can dilute it, you have to clean the brushs only with water (no white spirit, what's great)... A dream!
Additionaly, I'm not so bad, so I think that I sould paint more often... I've just found a new passion ;)

Poppy Day

J'ai découvert une autre tradition anglaise.

Depuis quelques jours, on voit plein de gens avec une fleur rouge en papier à leur boutonnière lorsqu l'on se promène dans la rue.
Je me suis demandée ce que ça pouvait bien être et l'explication que m'a donnée une collègue est assez jolie : ici en Angleterre, les gens mettent une fleur en papier et plus précisément un coquelicot ("poppy" en anglais) à leur boutonnière la semaine du 11 novembre pour se rappeler des morts de la 1ère guerre mondiale. C'est une manière pour eux de célébrer l'Armistice.

Pourquoi un coquelicot ? Parce que les soldats sont morts dans les champs où poussent les coquelicots. Je trouve ça assez symbolique et touchant comme tradition.

Guy Fawkes Day

Le 5 novembre, il y a eu des feux d'artifices partout à Cambridge, comme chaque année. Je me demandais pourquoi et ai eu l'explication. En Angleterre, on fête Guy Fawkes, personnage célèbre du 16e siècle qui a essayé de faire sauter le parlement anglais. Apparemment le film V pour Vendetta en est inspiré.

Maemo Nokia N900

I had the opportunity to play a bit with Marco's N900 and I decided to write a little review about it.

First of all, lots of people compare N900 and iPhone and we can read reviews written by Apple fan boys called as this one : "With N900, Nokia is still not close to the iPhone".
In my point of view, this kind of title is stupid because Nokia has never wanted to create an iPhone copy.
The idea of Nokia, if your read their blog, was to create a little Internet device focussing on the community aspect.

Of course there are some similitarities between iPhone and N900 but there are also a lot of differences and I think that these 2 devices aim to address different needs.

iPhone is first of all a phone and more precisely a touchphone. It is also a camera, a music player, an organiser, a tool box, an internet browser and a lot more thanks to the appstore where you can download a huge number of different applications.
But the iPhone is an egocentric device not focussing at all on the community aspect.

N900 is a mini computer with a keyboard and a touchscreen, focussing on communication and sharing over the Internet. It is also a phone, a music player, a GPS, a tool box and a camera. It can also be more thanks to the N900 platform where everybody can write applications for the device.
You can find all the features of the device here : http://maemo.nokia.com/n900/specifications/ but I would like to talk about some features I find very interesting.

1) Size of the device :

I compared the size of both devices, the iPhone and the N900 :
The N900 is the same length and the same width as the iPhone but the N900 is thicker than the iPhone .
You can explain that because the N900 has a keyboard and a removable battery (with N900 you can change the battery which is impossible with an iPhone).

2) How to use the device ?

This device is designed to be used horizontally (another difference with the iPhone which is used vertically). Indeed as a mobile computer, N900 looks more like a little computer if you use it horizontally.

3) Camera :

The N900's camera is a really good camera : 5 megapixel camera (2584 × 1938 pixels) with Carl Zeiss lens.

When you take a picture with the N900, you can choose to share it with your friends via Twitter, Facebook or via email. This is a really nice feature.

4) Multi desktop

You have 4 independant desktops that you can switch easily between. This gives you the opportunity to run more than one application at the same time, which is impossible with an iPhone.
Indeed, you can open a chat on one desktop, and doing other things at the same time on another desktop, which is totally impossible to do with an iPhone. With an iPhone you have the possibility to chat with some applications such as ebbudy for example, but you have to do that exclusively, which is not useful at all.

5) Design

From a girly point of view, I find that the design of the N900 is pretty good. The machine is black, quite small and elegant.
Another nice design feature is the set of wallpapers. The wallpapers are cut into four parts ; one different part for each desktop. See examples here : http://n900wallpapers.com/

6) Communication features

For each contact, you can choose the way to contact them : by phone, by instant messenging or an internet call (jabber, skype, SIP), by e-mail or by sms.
I think that it is a great idea which can save you a lot of money. Indeed, if you want to talk to one of your contacts and you see that they are online, you can talk to them for free by Internet rather than calling them by phone!

In conclusion, I think that the N900 is a really nice device for sombody who likes to stay in touch with their friends all the time, who wants a permanent Internet connection, who wants a phone, who wants a good little camera all the time in their pocket, who wants everything in one device and who finally is a bit geeky ; )

I discovered a sport club in Science Park (where I work) and the price was very interessting. When you are corporate, the fees is only £30 for one month to have a full-time access to everything (lesson - gym- sauna and squash courts). I subscribed for 1 month to try a bit everything. After you have to subscribe by 6 months so I will see if I continue or not.

J'ai découvert un club de sport à Science Park (où je travaille) et le prix était vraiment intéressant. Quand on est employé d'une des compagnies de Science Park, on ne doit payer que 30£ pour un mois d'essais donnant accès 24H sur 24 à tout le centre sportif (leçons, salle de muscu, de gym, sauna et terrain de squash). Du coup, j'ai pris un abonnement d'un mois pour un peu tout essayer. Après ça il faut s'abonner pour 6 mois, donc on verra si je continue ou pas. Mais en attendant, j'ai commencé à jouer au squash il y a 3 semaines avec des collègues et j'ai découvert que j'aimais vraiment bien. Story of my bikes !

1) As you probably already know, I'm cursed with my bikes. A lot of person are a bit lost so that's time to make a little summary of the story of my bikes.
Comme vous le savez probablement déjà, j'ai une malédiction avec mes vélos. Beaucoup s'y perdent et il est donc temps de faire un petit résumé de l'histoire de mes vélos.

When I arrived in UK on the 8th September 2008, I brought this old bike with me :
Quand je suis arrivée en Angleterre le 8 Septembre 2008, j'ai emmené avec moi ce vieux vélo :

J'ai dû changer les pneus et les chambres à air qui étaient pourri(e)s.
I had to change the tires and the inairtubes that were too old.

This bike was fine except for the brakes but on the end of January the mecanism of the pedals colapsed. I had the choice between fixing it or buying a new bike and I decided to buy a new bike.
Ce vélo roulait bien excepté les freins qui ne freinaient pas de trop. Malheureusement, fin janvier le mécanisme des pédales s'est déglingué et je ne savais plus rouler. J'avais le choix entre le faire réparer et acheter un nouveau vélo et j'ai choisi la seconde possibilité.

This bike was really nice but unfortunately it was stolen at the Cambridge Beer Festival on the end of May. Ce vélo était très chouette mais maleureusement, il a été volé au festival de la bière fin Mai. Je n'ai donc pu en profiter que 4 mois. I rode with this bike only for 4 months.

3) Mathilde, mon amie africaine m'a alors proposé de me revendre son vélo car elle repartait vivre au Sénégal. Elle ne s'était jamais servie du vélo. Je l'ai donc racheté en occasion avec le cadena pour 80£.
Mathilde my friends from Senegal proposed to me to sell her bike to me because she had planned to go back in Senegal. She has never used it. I bought this bike + the lock for £80.

We know the end of this bike... A car rode over it on the 19th June!
On se rappelle de la triste fin de celui-ci ... il a été écrasé par une voiture le 19 Juin! Je n'ai donc roulé avec ce vélo qu'un mois. I rode with this bike only for 1 month !

4) I decided that I didn't want to spend a lot of money on my stupid bikes anymore.
To fix the mecanism of my first old bike, I learnt it was £16.
To fix the other bike, I would have to spend £25 for a new back whell and £11 for a second hand front fork. So I decided to fix the old one. Currently, the other bike is disassambled and is in my garden shed.
J'ai alors décidé que j'en avais fini de dépensser plein d'argent pour ces stupides vélos. Je me suis renseignée pour savoir quel vélo couterait le moins cher à réparer. Réparer le mécanisme des pédales de mon tout vieux vélo revenait à £16 et réparer le vélo qui venait d'être écrasé revenait à 25£ pour une nouvelle roue arrière et à 11£ pour une fourche avant de seconde main. J'ai donc décidé de réparer le vieux. L'autre est actuellement en pièces détachées dans la remise de mon jardin.

Je roule donc avec le vieux vélo à nouveau (numéro 1) et doit changer les chambres à air régulièrement car mes roues fuitent tout le temps... Réparer mes roues, voilà mon quotidien. Je pense que j'ai réparer 5 fois des fuites depuis 3 mois !

In Total I spent for my bikes : 155 + 10 +10 +80 + 20 (fixing old bike) + 20 (several inairtubes) = £295 ... So I spent more than 300 euros in bikes !!!!

J'ai donc dépensé pour mes vélos depuis que je suis ici : 155 + 10 + 10 + 80 + 20 (réparations) + 20 (multiples chambres à air) = 295£ arrondissons à 300£. J'ai claqué plus de 300 euros pour ces stupides vélos !

Hier soir, nous avez été à une soirée costumée d'une de mes collègues et c'était super drôle.

The Milk Bottle Man.

There was the Log Lady in the David Lynch TV séries, Twin Peaks ; here in Cambridge, there is the Milk bottle Man.

Since I'm working at Taptu, I often see a man walking with a plastic bottle of milk.
He is a tall and skiny man with grey hair, glasses that looks like the Woody Allen glasses. He is always dressed the same way : with a classic shirt and a classic trouser. In Winter he wears a fur coat and an awfull fur hat.
Sometimes, when I go to work, I see him walking in the same direction than I ; Some other times I see him when I go back home from work and there again, he is walking in the same direction than I. So I concluded that we live and we work in the same area.

The first time I saw him, I taught : " Oh, he is probably a good man who goes to the farm to get some milk". But I quickly noticed that each time I saw this man on the road, his plastic bottle of milk was totaly EMPTY !

Si I began to think that he was maybe a kind of crazy people (as the Lof Lady in Twin Peaks) who always keeps his plastic bottle of milk with him. But Guillaume told me - once I was talking to him about this weird man again - that if it was always the same bottle, the stickers of the bottle should be old now and a bit dirt. It was a really clever observation.
So, I began to observe the bottle of the man and I noticed that the stickers seems always new. That's really interresting !
It means that the crazy man with the plastic bottle of milk always carries different empty bottles !!!

I also noticed that there often is a degusting red-brown stuff in the bottom of the bottle. Yum yum!

The mysterious affair continue...

Yesterday, I was walking toward the Tesco from work ( because the tire of my bike was flat again!) and I saw the man. I have to say that it is always a source of joy for me when I see this guy ! : )
Anyway, I had to meet Guillaume to the Tesco so I phoned him to warn him that it was his chance to see the crazy man with the empty plastic bottle of milk! And Guillaume saw him !!!
I hoped the man would go to Tesco letting me finally kown the origin of the empty milk bottles but unfortunately he didn't and continued his way.
However, we learnt a lot thanks to this meeting !
Yesterday, the crazy man was carring 2 plastic bottles of milk. It's a first!
Addtionnaly he was dressed differently than the other times... Wierd !!
We also noticed that he was really paranoïd... He was walking 3 meters, after stopped and watched behind him... continued walking 3 metres, stopped and watched behind him... with crazy eyes !

I'll continue my investigation because I'm wondering a lot of things again :
1) What can do this man with all these empty milk bottles ?
2) Why does this man cross Cambridge around 9am in one direction and around 5-6pm in an other direction ? Does he have a job ?
3) Why are the bottles always empty ?
4) What's the origin of the bottle ? Where does he find all these bottles ? In the street ?
5) Where this man is coming from ?
6) Where this man is going ?
7) What is the odd red-brown stuff in the bottom of the bottle ? ....

L'homme à la bouteille de lait

Dans la magnifique série de David Lynch "Twin Peaks", il y avait "la femme à la bûche" et ici à Cambridge il y a "l'homme à la bouteille de lait".

Depuis que je travaille chez Taptu (presque un an) je croise régulièrement sur mon chemin un homme marchant en tenant une bouteille de lait.
C'est un homme grand, mince, la 50aine, les cheveux gris avec des lunettes à la Woody Allen. Il est toujours habillé de la même façon : en chemise et en pantalon classique. En hiver il a un menteau de fourure brun et une splendide toque.
Je le croise parfois en allant au boulot où il marche dans la même direction que moi et je le croise parfois en revenant du boulot où il marche là aussi dans la même direction que moi. J'en ai conclu qu'on avait à peu près les mêmes horaires et que l'on vivait et travaillait dans les mêmes coins. Je me suis prise d'affection pour cet homme à la bouteille de lait intrigant.

La première fois que je l'ai vu je me suis dite " Oh, voilà un brave homme qui va chercher du lait frais à la ferme". Mais bien vite je me suis rendu compte que ce n'était pas le cas car à chaque fois que je le croisais dans un sens comme dans l'autre, sa bouteille était complètement VIDE !

Je me suis alors dite. Peut-être que c'est un fétichiste, un genre de fou qui ne se sépare jamais de SA précieuse bouteille de lait. Mais Guillaume m'a récemment très justement fait remarquer - alors que je lui disais une fois encore que j'avais croisé l'homme à la bouteille de lait - que si c'était toujours la même bouteille, l'étiquette de la bouteille devrait être usée! J'ai donc commencé à faire bien attention à l'étiquette de la bouteille et j'ai remarqué que celle-ci n'est jamais usée ! Voilà qui est intéressant!
Il s'agit donc à chaque fois de bouteilles différentes mais toujours vides !

J'ai aussi remarqué que bien souvent il y avait un fond rougeâtre assez dégueulasse dans le fond des bouteilles !

Le mystère continue...

Aujourd'hui : bonheur ! J'étais à pied (car la roue de mon vélo est encore crevée pour ne pas changer) et je suis tombée sur le fou à la bouteille de lait alors que je me rendais au Tesco où j'avais RDV avec Guillaume. J'ai vite téléphoné à Guillaume pour qu'il puisse enfin voir le fameux fou à la bouteille de lait dont je lui parlais tant. J'espérais que le fou se rende au Tesco pour me donner des indications sur l'origine des bouteilles de lait mais il a continué sa route, malheureusement. Mais nous avons tout de même appris quelques nouveaux éléments fascinants grâce à cette heureuse rencontre...
Aujourd'hui le fou tenait 2 bouteilles de lait!!! C'est une première (et donc la preuve qu'il s'agit de bouteilles différentes). Il était également habillé différemment de d'habitude. Étrange!!!
Par ailleurs, nous avons pu remarquer qu'il avait l'air assez parano car il marchait 3 mètres se retournait, marchait 3 mètres se retournait et ainsi de suite; tout ça avec un air de fou furieux...

Je vais continuer à enquêter car un bon nombre de questions restent ouvertes :
1) Que peut faire cet homme avec ces bouteilles de lait ?
2)Pourquoi traverse t-il Cambridge à 9H dans un sens et à 17H30 dans l'autre sens ? Aurait-il un travail?
3) Pourquoi ses bouteilles sont-elles toujours vides ?
4) Où peut-il bien se procurer ces bouteilles vides ? Les ramasserait-il dans la rue ?
5) D'où vient il ?
6) Où va t-il ?
7) Qu'est ce que le fond rougeâtre dans ses bouteilles ?

La geek que je suis devenue a décidé de lancer un nouveau Blog : "Géraldine en cuisine"
Encore un site de recettes. Et oui, un de plus ! : )

La semaine passée les Belges ont débarqué en Angleterre et ce fut l'occasion pour nous d'aller visiter la cathédrale d' Ely et la maison de Cromwell que je vous recommande.
La maison de Cromwell est un peu nulle en soi mais il y a une pièce géniale où l'on peut se déguiser avec des chapeaux d'époque et c'est super drôle. Ca faisait un éternité que je n'avais plus autant ri.

Last week, the Belgian people came to Cambridge and it was an occasion for us to go to visit the Ely Cathedral and the Cromwell house. The Cromwell house is not really interesting but there is a great room where people are allowed to wear medieval costumes and old hats what is really funny. I didn't laugh like that since ages.

J'en ai eu pour 299 euros seulement avec cette configuration ; ce qui n'est vraiment pas cher.
J'ai supprimé Windows et ai fait installer Ubuntu par Guillaume. Ubuntu marche parfaitement sur le Dell Inspiron mini tel qu'il est décrit ci-dessus.
Pourquoi avoir commandé mon netbook avec Windows si je ne l'emploie pas, me demanderez-vous ? Et bien tout simplement parce qu'il était impossible d'avoir Ubuntu pré-installé avec la configuration que je voulais. Merci Dell !
Ceci étant, j'ai refusé la licence Windows et je compte bien essayer de me la faire remboursser (c'est plus ou moins 30 euros). Normalement ce serait tout à fait possible (je vous tiens au courant).
Pour ce qui est de la vitesse (chargement des programmes, Internet) c'est parfait.
L'écran et le clavier sont très confortables. Le clavier a la taille d'un clavier de portable. Il est vraiment grand comparé aux claviers des autres netbooks que j'ai pu tester.
En ce qui concerne la batterie 3 cellules, il faut avouer qu'elle ne tient pas longtemps. Perso je m'en fiche car j'utilise tout le temps l'adaptateur mais si vous voulez vous passer de l'adaptateur, il faut prévoir une batterie plus puissante.
N'oubliez pas non plus qu'avec une batterie plus puissante, votre ordi sera plus lourd.
Or, l'avantage du netbook est son poids plume.

Le seul malus de ce netbook est le touchpad qui est vraiment inutilisable car les boutons pour cliquer sont intégrés au touchpad au lieu d'être séparés. Résultat, quand vous voulez cliquer, votre curseur change de place et il est impossible de cliquer.
Une souris est donc indispensable, si vous ne voulez pas rapidement perdre la tête.

En conclusion :
écran : Bien
Clavier : Très bien
Poids : Bien
Vitesse : Bien
Compatibilité Ubuntu : Très bien
Batterie 3 cellules : Faible
Touchpad : Très faible (prévoir une souris)
Design : Très bien
Finition : Très bien (c'est du bon matos)

Hourray ! My netbook Dell Inspiron Mini is arrived to my parents' place (in Belgium). In 2 days I'll have my little baby in my arms.
My best friend has to bring it in UK in 2 days... Sooooo excited... I'll make a complete review of my new little toy in few days.
The idea to have my own laptop again is such a relief (My Mac died almost 2 months ago !!!!).
Hope that it will survive during the travel (Belgium -> UK)

Mon Netbook Dell Inspiron Mini est arrivé chez mes parents. Dans 2 jours je pourrai tenir mon nouveau petit bébé dans les bras.
Mon meilleur ami doit le ramener en Angleterre dans 2 jours... Je suis excitée comme une puce.
L'idée d'avoir un ordi à nouveau est une vrai source de bonheur. Mon Mac a tout de même crashé il y a 2 mois déjà!!!
Je vous ferai dès lors un compte rendu détaillé de mon nouveau petit bijou.
Espérons que la traversée de la Manche se passe bien pour lui.

Battle Star Gallactica Game

Guillaume bought the Battle Star Gallactica Game.
We played on Tuesday Evening (3H) - listening the music of the serie (Will idea) - after 1 hour of rules explanation.
The game is quite nice for the people who knows the serie but there is a llllllllloooot of rules.
The design of the game is great. The spirit of the serie is there too.
You have to choose one charachter of the serie and playing with among Batlar/ Boomer/Chief/ Adama (father or son) /Starbuck/ The President /Colonet Tigh.. and other famous charachter of the serie.
Each charachter has special abilities.
The game is a cooperatif game (we are human who want to reach Kobol and fight against the Cylon) but there is one of the player/charachter who is secretly a Cylon and has to make loose the human race.
I recomand you this geeky game. The role play aspect is quite funny.

Guillaume a acheté le jeu Battle Star Gallactica.
Nous avons joué 3H mardi soir après 1 heures d'explication des règles (rien que ça!) tout en écoutant la musique de la série (hum...) Il ne manquait que mon casque en alluminium.
Le jeu est très chouette pour les gens qui ont regardé la série. Et nous avons tous regardé les 4 saisons bien sûr..
Le jeu est vraiment resté fidèle à l'esprit de la série et le design est super.
On doit choisir un perso de la série parmis Baltar, Boomer, le Chief, Colonel Tigh, Adama (père et fils), Starbuck, la présidente,... et encore d'autres.
Chaque perso a des capacités spéciales.
Le jeu est coopératif. Le concept : nous sommes des humains qui essayons d'atteindre Kobol et qui luttons contre les Cylons. Néanmoins, il y a un traître parmis les joueurs qui est secrètement un Cylon et qui essaie de faire perdre les humains.
Je vous recommande ce jeu de rôle qui est assez sympa.

1) The Collabora Banner

On the 3th July, at 2.11pm Rob (one of the Collabora boss) sent to me this and I'm sure that he sent the same to all his friends, family and contacts :

It was the beginning of a love story between all Collabora and THE COLLABORA Banner.
Guillaume and I had to bring the precious banner to the Guadec (Dektop summit) and I have to say that Guillaume took more care for this banner than for his own suitcase.

2) Arnaud and his strawberry dessert...

We went to a Brazilian restaurant. Arnaud was complaining about the restaurant that was expensive and that was bad on his opinion. Personnally I found that the food was quite good (so all the other persons eating there). He was still complaining when we ordered the dessert. So he didn't pay attention and orderd a crapy dessert : 5 strawberries for 4 euros (or something like that) so he complained more and more and it was toooo funny. More he was complaining more we all were laughing. Great moment.

4) Collabora on the Beach :

They arrived on the Beach arround 6pm when the sun was almost gone
....with BEERS.

They put sun cream even if the sun was gone. I didn't understand why but I won't try to understand anymore. Some mysteries of life don't have any explanation.
They often kept their t-shirts.

Enfin 2 minutes pour écrire un article. Mon Mac étant toujours HS, je suis sur le vieil ordi de Guillaume.
Nous en étions resté à Mardi.
After a crazy week, I have finaly 2 minutes to write an article. My Mac is still broken, so I'm using the old Guillaume 's laptop.

Mardi Soir/Tuesday Evening:
- Repas Collabora/Collabora dinner.

Mercredi/Wednesday :
- Visite de l'île avec Pierre-Luc, Paul et Johnatan en bus en passant par 2 villages typiques : Arucas & Terror.
-Visit of the island with Pierre-Luc, Paul and Johnatan by bus. We saw 2 beautiful villages : Arucas & Terror.
- Crash de mon ordi : ( / My laptop crashed
- Soirée Collabora open bar / Collabora party and open bar.

Jeudi / Turdsay:
- Desktop summit à l'Université de Las Palmas.
- Desktop summit to the Las Palmas University.
- "Visite" organisée par le desktop summit que nous avons baptisée Guillaume et moi : "Le Beau Fiasco". Guillaume pensait que c'était une journée visite mais en fait c'était orienté plage et ne le sachant pas, nous n'avions pas pris nos maillots. Bon début! Nous avons hésité à partir, mais là, on nous a dit que ce n'était que 2 heures de plage et le reste du temps de la visite. On s'est donc laissé embarquer alors qu'on avait pas le programme. Ce voyage n'a fait que foirer. On devait partir à 14H mais le temps que les organisateurs comptent tout le monde on est parti à 14H30. Il y avait 3 cars ("wawa" dans le langage local). A 14H45, notre wawa s'arrêtait au bord de l'autoroute car la wawa était cassée ! On a donc dû changer de bus nous faisant perdre un temps maximum. C'était merveilleux! Là on a abandonné notre premier guide sympa pour le guide que je surnomerai le roi des connards.
On est arrivé à 16H pour notre première visite des dunes de Maspalomas (cf: photo) où à cause du retard, nous n'avons pu rester que 10 min. Ensuite ils nous ont amené sur une plage surpeuplée hyper touristique dans une ville construite pour les touristes : Maspalomas (cf: photo). L'horreur à l'état brute. Nous n'avions pas nos maillots, il faisait étouffant, il n'y avait que des gros touristes .Nous avons tourné en rond 2 heures. C'était detestable (mais à voir). Je sais au moins maintenant que je n'irai jamais passer mes vacances là.
Nous sommes enfin parti de cet endroit atroce à 18H30. De là on est (ENFIN) allé visiter un village appelé Ajuines qui valait vraiment le coup de 19H à 20H. Nous étions dégoutés car nous avons perdu notre journée dans les transports et dans une station touristique pour finalement ne visiter qu'une heure alors que c'était censé être une journée visite! Enfin, comme disait Guillaume, ça nous a au moins permis de savoir que les voyages organisés ce n'était pas pour nous.

- "Visit" organised by the Desktop Summit that we called Guillaume and I : "Le Beau Fiasco" ( = "the wonderfull mess"). Guillaume tought that it would be a visit day but in fact it was more focus on Beach. We had no idea about that so we didn't take our swimmingsuit with us. Good Start! We hesitated to go but some people told us that it would be only 2 hours on Beach and visits he rest of the time; so we left with the group. This trip was a mess. First of all, we were supposed to leave at 2pm but we left at 2.30pm because the organisators had to count everybody. At 2.45pm, our bus ("wawa" in the local langage) collapsed. As a result we had to change of wawa along the motrway. Just Great. At this point we had to let our nice guide to a mean guide that I call "le roi des connards" (=the king of the assholes).
We arrived at 4pm to visit the Maspalomas dunes (cf pictures). But because of the delay, we could stay only 10 minutes. After that we had to run to a crowd beach full of tourists (cf pictures). A nightmare! It was too hot, there were too many people and we didn't have our swimmingsuit. We did nothing during 2 hours. But now, I know that I'll never go in holliday to this place.
We left this place at 6.30pm to (Finaly) go to visit. We went to a little village called Ajuines from 7pm to 8pm. The village was great but Guillaume and I were really disappointed because it was supposed to be a visit day and rather than visiting we wasted our time in the bus or in touristic places. At Least, as Guillaume said, we know now that we never travel with groups via organised trip anymore.

Gran Canaria ! Desktop Summit

Nous voilà déjà mardi et il est grand temps de poster quelques photos et de parler de ce petit séjour fort sympathique aux îles Canaries.

We already are Tuesday and it's time to post some pictures and to tell a bit about the Grand Canaria trip.

Samedi/ Satuday :

*Après une journée de voyage, arrivée à 22H à l'hôtel grand luxe : Best Western Hôtel Cantur

*Repas sur la digue à 23H en terrasse. La plage est à 100 m de notre hôtel. Guillaume y a mangé une pieuvre !

*soirée avec Collabora sur le toit de l'hôtel. Retrouvailles avec les Collaborans des quatres coin du monde.

* After a day of travel, we arrived at our luxury hotel at 10pm : Best Western Hôtel Cantur

* Diner along the beach at 11pm. The beach is really close to the hotel (100m). Guillaume ate an octopus !

* Evening with Collabora on the hotel's roof. Meeting with the Collaborans coming from all around the world.

Dimanche / Sunday:

* 9H : Debout!

* 9H15 : Piscine

* 9H45 : Petit déjeuner

Il y a 30 min de marche le long de la plage pour y arriver (voir photos du bâtiment)

Je me suis inscrite au Summit en tant que bonne geek que je suis devenue. J'ai reçu un super "serviette" de plage (comme disent les Canadiens), une clé USB, une gourde et des bons gratuits pour des glaces et des cafés. Coolll!!

Là, j'ai assisté à 2 conférences; à celles de Pierre-Luc Beaudoin et à celle d'Olivier Crête (les Canadiens de Collabora). La première parlait de programmes de géolocalisation et la suivante de Farsight. Je suis assez fière car j'ai compris plein de choses.

* 13H : repas dans le centre commercial d'à côté.

* En après-midi, Guillaume est resté aux conférences et je suis allée à la plage.

* Dés 18H, soirée entre francophones de Collabora sur la plage à boire des bières.

*19H : Direction la piscine et le jacuzzi sur le toit de l'hôtel.

*Resto Libanais toujours entre francophones.

* Soirée Nokia dans un club branché où "ça manquait de filles" pour reprendre l'expression d'Arnaud ; )

* 9 am : Wake up !

* 9.15 am : Swimming pool.

*9.45 am : breakfast.

* 10.30 am : direction Desktop Summit http://www.grancanariadesktopsummit.org/

There is 30 min walking along the beach to arrive until there (See pictures of the building).

I subscribed to the Summit as a geek I became and I received a great green towel, an USB key, and miscs...which is quite cool !

I went to 2 talks. The one of Pierre-Luc Beaudoin et the one of Olivier Crête ( Canadians from Collabora). The first talk was about geolocation applications and the second talk was about Farsight. I'm quite proud because I understood a lot of things!

* 1pm: lunch time.

* During the afternoon, Guillaume remained to the Desktop Summit and I went to the Beach.

* From 6pm: evening between Collabora French speaker on the beach drinking beers.

* 7 pm : Direction swimming pool and jacuzzi on the hotel roof.

* Libaneese restaurant between French speaker (again!)

* Nokia event where "the girls were missing!" to use the Arnaud's words ; )

Lundi/ Monday :

* Debout 9H30

* Petit déjeuner

* Guillaume est parti au Desktop Summit voir les conférences et moi j'ai glandé sur mon iPod à l'hôtel jusqu'à toutes les heures. Oui,Taptu a décidé de fournir un iPod Touch à ses employés. Il est à nous et on peut l'employer quand on veut, le temps que l'on travaille pour la compagnie.

* A midi, je me suis mise en route juqu'au Desktop Summit où j'ai retrouvé mes centaines de geeks et après un rapide coucou je me suis offerte une aprem de shopping.

* Soirée : plage obligée avec Collabora francophone à nouveau. On a toujours pas vu les Anglais à la plage !

* 20H : Resto italien. J'avais troooop envie d'un spaget Bolo !

* Fin de soirée jusqu'à 2H du mat. Discussion philosophico-historico-religieuse passionnante entre athées, agnostiques et Youness (Canadien marocain musulman de Collabora).

* 9.30am : Wake up !

* Breakfast.

* Guillaume went to the Desktop Summit to see the talks and I remained at the hotel playing with my iPod Touch until late. Yes ,Taptu decided to buy an iPod Touch for his employees . The iPod is ours until we leave the compagny.

*At noon, I went until the Desktop Summit where I found my houndreds geeks and after a quick "Hello" I went shopping.

*Evening : Beach with Collabora French speaker again. We did'nt see the English people on the beach yet!

* 8pm : Italian restaurant. I really wanted a spagetti Bolognaise !

* End of evening until 2am. philosophico-historico-religious discussion really interessting between atheists, agnostics ans Youness (Canadian Marocan Muslim from Collabora).

Mardi/Tuesday :

* Debout 9H

* Petit déjeuner

* Direction Desktop Summit pour la conférence de Guillaume (11H) qui parlait des divers travaux de Collabora. La conf s'est passée à merveille et beaucoup de gens ont réellement l'air fans de ce que fait Collabora. C'était vraiment chouette et motivant à voir. * Repas de midi.

* 14H : pour ma part, retour à l'hôtel pour aller à la plage avec Arnaud.

* Piscine.

* Douche.

Finally, I find that a broken bike is quite pretty.

Finalement, je trouve que c'est assez artistique un vélo écrabouillé.

One good news is that I disassembled the bike and I think that I'd be able to fixe it ! I just need to get a new back wheel (the tire and the inairube are still good !) and a new front fork.

La bonne nouvelle c'est que j'ai démonté mon vélo et que je pense qu'il est réparable ! Je dois juste acheter une nouvelle roue arrière ( Incroyable mais le pneu et la chambre à air son encore intacts ! ) et remplacer la fourche avant qui est tordue.

La malédiction continue !

My fist bike was stolen.

My second bike was distroyed between 5.30pm an 6.30pm this afternoon in a pub's parking. I think that a car rode over my bike although it was along the fence attached with other bikes.

I just feel depressed. Why always my bike ?

Mon premier vélo fut volé.

Mon second vélo fut détruit entre 17H30 et 18H30 cet après-midi dans le parking d'un pub. Je pense qu'une voiture l'a fait tombé et a roulé dessus ! Alors qu'il était le long d'une barrière accolé et attaché à d'autres vélos.

Soupir... Pourquoi c'est toujours mon vélo qui ramasse ?

On this picture the frame and the front wheel looks good but actually all the bike is twisted ! Hourray! For the garbage !

Sur cette photo la roue avant et le cadre semblent épargnés mais en fait, tout le vélo est tordu. Super ! Il est bon pour la poubelle.

Friday Night with Arnaud!

On Friday night, Guillaume and I spent our time with Arnaud for his last day in Cambridge and it was great ! Arnaud (for the people who don't know him) is a french student who worked for Collabora for 3 months.

To start the party : 3 bottles of wine at 3 at the Regal Waterspoon (= this famous great pub/dancing were I went with the Historians in February ).

After that, we went to the Kambar, to the famous generator party (ROCK). After the Kambar, we were drunk and scandalous in the street and we finally finished the party at the Waterspoon again (until 2pm).

So... the summary in images :

Vendredi soir, Guillaume et moi avons passé notre soirée avec Arnaud pour son dernier jour à Cambridge et c'était génial. Arnaud (pour les gens qui ne le connaissent pas) est un étudiant français qui a fait son stage chez Collabora pendant 3 mois.

Pour commencer la soirée : 3 bouteilles de vin à 3 au Regal Waterspoon (= le fameux pub/boîte super où je suis allée avec les historiens en Février).

Après ça, nous sommes allés au Kambar à la fameuse soirée generator ! (ROCK) . Après le Kambar, nous avons erré dans les rues, saouls et scandaleux pour ensuite retourner au Regal Waterspoon pour finir la soirée jusqu'à 2H du matin.

Strawberry Fair

On Saturday it was the Strawberry fair. It was great ! A kind of huge hippy gathering with a lot of people disguised, punks, artists, dreadlocks people, funny dogs and old hippies of course... so, there were a lot of unconventional people... It was really nice. Additionaly, there were a lot of shops where you could find nice color clothes, cheap bangles, neckless,...

I really enjoyed there !

Ce samedi, nous avons été au Strawberry fair. C'était super ! un genre d'immense rassemblement d'hippies. Il y avait plein de boutiques de vêtement colorés, de gens déguisés, des punks, des artistes, des gens avec des dreadlocks, des chiens marants, plein de marginaux et de vieux hippies bien sûr. C'était vraiment super chouette.

Droit de vote / Poling

Ici en Angleterre les élections parlementaires étaient le jeudi 4 juin (ainsi que celle du county).

Notons qu'en Angleterre le vote n'est pas obligatoire et que les élections se déroulaient jeudi toute la journée de 7am à 10pm. C'est très différent de la Belgique où le vote est obligatoire et où l'on doit se le farcir un dimanche matin.

Quand nous nous sommes présentés aux guichets, Guillaume et moi ne pouvions voter que pour le county car nous n'avions soi-disant pas fait la demande de voter pour le parlement européen, autrement dit pour les candidats anglais. C'est vrai qu'on avait rien demandé car on comptait voter pour les candidats belges. au départ.

Normalement, l'ambassade de Belgique nous avait dit qu'elle nous enverrait les papiers pour voter mais comme on a rien reçu, on s'est logiquement dit que l'on devait voter pour les candidats anglais. Mais non, en fait, ça ne se fait pas automatiquement.

On devait sucer de notre pouce qu'on devait envoyer une demande de vote soit en Angleterre, soit à l'ambassade de Belgique. Le comble, c'est que quand on est arrivé ici, on a bien demandé les infos à l'ambassade pour ce qui est du droit de vote et ils nous ont dit qu'ils nous enverraient tout par la poste. Enfin bref, le résultat c'est que cette année, nous n'avons pas pu voter.

En plus, pour une fois je savais pour qui j'allais voter : (

C'est bien la première fois de ma vie qu'on m'interdisait de voter. C'est bizarre.

Here in England, the poling for the parlement and the county was on the 4th June. In England, the vote is not an obligation and you can vote during all the day (7am until 10pm).

In Belgium, that's different. The vote is an obligation and you must vote on Sunday morning. It will be tomorrow (7th June).

When, Guillaume and I went to the poling place, they told to us that we couldn't vote for the parlement but only for the county because we didn't fill in a form asking to vote in England rather than in Belgium. Indeed we didn't because we did beleive that we had to vote for the Belgium candidats.

Normally, the Ambassy of Belgium told us that they would send to us the papers to vote but as we didn't receive anything, we tought (logically) that we had to vote for the English candidats. But we had wrong because it isn't an automatic system.

We had to guess that we had to send a demanding to the Belgium ambassy or to the city council of Cambridge to be allowed to vote for the parlement. The worst is that when we arrived in England we asked to the Belgium ambassy what we had to do for the poling and the ambassy told us that they will send us all the information by post.

Anyway... this year we couldn't vote. And for once, I knew fot who I wanted to vote : (

It is the first time in my life that I mustn't vote. That's odd.

TERMINATOR Salvation

I went to see Terminator Salvation to the cinema tonight and I found that great... Generally I don't like the action movies but I found this one really well done.

I was a bit affraid at the idea to see a geeky movie but finally I'm the one who appreciated the most the movie .

I had just seen the first Terminator (neither the 2 nor the 3) but the story of this one wasn't difficult to understand. I'm not a purist at all then I can't say more ( if it is faithfull... bla bla bla). But what I can say is that if you don't really know the story, you 'll really enjoy yourself with a good action movie, you won't be bored one seconde and if you are a girl, you 'll probably love it because one of the charater is so hot! I was under his charm during all the movie!

Je suis allée voir Terminator Salvation ce soir au Cinéma et j'ai trouvé ça super... Généralement, je n'aime pas trop les films d'action mais j'ai trouvé celui-ci vraiment bien fait.

J'étais un peu effrayée à l'idée d'aller voir un film de geek, mais finalement, je suis encore celle qui ait le plus apprécié le film.

J'avais juste vu Terminator 1 (pas le 2 ni le 3) mais je trouvais que l'histoire de celui-ci n'était pas difficile à comprendre. Je ne suis pas une puriste du tout alors je ne peux pas vraiment vous dire si le film était fidèle et tout ça... Mais ce que je peux dire c'est que si vous ne connaissez pas vraiment l'histoire, vous allez passer un bon moment avec un bon film d'action où vous ne vous ennuierez pas une seconde et si vous êtes une fille, vous aimerez le film rien que par le fait que l'un des perso est trop hot ! J'étais sous le charme durant tout le film !

It was the thirty Sixth Beer Festival of Cambridge from Monday 18th to Saturday 23rd May. It was more than 80 cider & perries and more than 200 real Ales in a huge tent. C'était le 36ème Festival de la Bière à Cambridge, du lundi 18 au samedi 23 mai. Il y avait plus de 80 cidres et perries ( poires ? ) et plus de 200 bières dans un immense chapiteau. Voici, quelques photos du festival pour vous donner une idée.

Je ne sais pas ce que j'ai fait mais à mon avis c'est grâve car depuis la semaine passée, j'accumule l'infortune :

I don't know what I've done but since last week I've a lot of unfortune.

1 ) Vendredi 15/05, j'arrive à l'hosto pour mon opération chez le dermato qui avait déjà été reportée une fois (elle était censée avoir lieu le 16/04) et là, arrivée au guichet, on me dit que mon RDV est annulé et qu'on l'a reporté à une date ultérieure car le docteur ne peut pas faire l'opération. J'avais payé le taxi, pris congé et n'avais pas été prévenue. J'ai donc tapé scandale car j'étais furax qu'on annule une deuxième fois et en plus cette fois ci sans prévenir. Apparemment, le docteur leur avait dit la veille qu'elle ne pouvait pas faire l'opération pour une histoire de durée (!) J'ai littéralement tapé scandale de manière tout à fait justifiée... et là quand le docteur est arrivé, la réceptionniste que j'engueulais depuis 10 min est allée lui parler et apparemment le docteur a accepté de me recevoir... Après 2H d'attente, j'ai eu mon opération ( 10 min d'intervention)... la dame qui m'a opérée était charmante et son assistante m'a dite que j'avais bien fait de me plaindre car c'était tout le temps le bordel pour donner des RDV dans ce service. Cette histoire était invraisemblable. Je n'avais jamais vu ça ! J'ai dû m'énerver pour me faire opérer !

On Friday 15/05, I went to the hospital for my surgery that has already been postponed once (normally I sould have had the surgery on the 16/04) and then, once I was at the reception, a girl told me that my appointment was cancelled and postponed again because the doctor was "unable" to do the surgery. I became very angry. I had taken a Taxi, a day off and I hadn't been warn of the changing! it was really a shame ! I refused to postpone my appointment once again....

Apparently, The doctor who had to do my surgery initialy was in holliday and the doctor replaçant said to the receptionist just the previous day that she couldn't do such a long surgery ! I was too chocked... Finally I continued to complain... The doctor arrived with 20 minutes late and at this moment, the receptionist told her my case and she accepted immediately to do the surgery ! After 2 hours waiting, my surgery was done in 10 minutes (!). The doctor was charming and even told me that I did right to complain because, in the deramtology service, it's always the mess to give the appointments. This story is unbelievable ! I had to complain and to argue to have my surgery !

2) On a eu de mauvaises nouvelles pour la maison pour laquelle on a fait une offre. Notre offre a été refusée et il y aurait d'autres amateurs... vrai ou pas, on ne le saura jamais, mais ce genre de conneries a le don de m'énerver. L'agence est en train d'essayer de nous mettre la pression.

We had some bad news about our offers for the house. It was refused and maybe there are other persons interrested. True or not, this kind of bullshit upset me. The agency try to put the pressure.

3) Il y a des oiseaux qui ont fait un nids dans la gouttière de notre toit et qui m'empêchent de dormir alors que je suis stressée et fatiguée..

There are birds that built their nest in the gutter of our roof and as a result, I can't sleep and I'm stressed and tired.

4) J'ai réussi à m'engueuler avec mes parents par téléphone.

I argued with my parents by phone.

5) Aujourd'hui, je suis allée au beer festival pour me détendre. Et quand je suis revenue, "Oh surprise", un cadenas coupé et plus de vélo. Mon vélo a été volé alors qu'il était à un endroit de passage ( on peut même pas dire que c'était dans une ruelle mal éclairée).

Résultat, je suis rentrée à pied. Heureusement que les points de sutures à ma jambe n'ont pas lâché (oui chez le dermato vendredi, c'était pour enlever un point de beauté).

Maintenant, je suis quitte pour me taper la police dans les jours à venir et pour me dégoter un nouveau vélo, comme si j'avais le temps !

Today, I had been to the beer festival to relax myself. And when I went back, "oh, surprise!", my locked was cut and my bike was gone. My bicycle was stolen although it was next a crowed path ( it was even not a little path in the sadow without light).

As a result I had to went home walking. Fortunately, the stiches on my leg were not broken (yes, when I went to the dermatologist on Friday, it was to remove a mole).

Anyway,.... now, I just have to buy a new bike and go to the police as if I had time to loose !

Hier après-midi, c'était trèèèèèèsssss geek !

Yesterday afternoon was veryyyyy geek !

1) Ben, mieux connu sous l'appellation " " femme" de Natalie", le plus geek des geeks que j'ai eu l'honneur de rencontrer, est bien sûr arrivé à notre aprem jeux de société avec son PC

1) Ben that you probably know as " Wife" of Natalie - the geekest geek that I met - is arrived with his laptop to our boardgames afternoon (of course !).

2) On a joué à un jeu super geek :" Flux". Le concept c'est qu' il n'y pas de règles. Elles changent au fur et à mesure du jeu. Je n'étais pas convaincue, mais j'ai gagné en 5 min grâce à la carte "Peace and Love !" whéééééééé

2) We played with a very geeky game : "Flux". The concept is that there is no rules. The rules change during the game. I wasn't convinced by the game but I won after 5 min thanks to the "Peace and Love" card ! Whéééééé!

3) Il y a du progrès : cette fois ils n'ont plus le même T-shirt et il n'y a que 2/3 de T-shirts d'informatique. Par contre, force est de constater que Natalie aime vraiment gnome ! ; )

3) There is some progress here : this time, they didn't have the same t-shirt anymore and only 2/3 of the T-shirts were geeky t-shirts. But we have to notice that Natalie really likes gnome !

Tous les jours depuis 3 jours, je suis réveillée à 6H de mat par des cris d'oiseau et des battements d'aile. Je pensais d'abord que c'était un pigeon coincé dans le toit du voisin mais non ... je me suis rendue compte que c'était une sale petit connard d'oiseau qui a décidé de faire son nid dans la gouttière de notre toit qui est soit à 2 m, de la fenêtre de ma chambre et presque au dessus de ma tête quand je dors... Rahhhhh, je viens encore de l'entendre gigoter, je hais ce bruit !

Quelque chose me dit que je vais bientôt aller dormir dans mon salon ou manger un bon pigeon roti dans les jours à venir !

Every Day since tuesday, I'm awake at 6am by a cry of a bird and by flapping wings. I thought that it was a pigeon stucked in the roof of my neighbour but I get wrong... I noticed that it is an awfull asshole bird who decided to make his nest in the gutter of our roof and this gutter is at 2 meter of the window of my room. So I've the feeling to have this bird just above my head when I sleep... Rahh, I 've just heard it moved right now ! I hate this noice.

I really consider to go downstairs (in my living-room) to sleep tonight or to eat a good rosted pigeon very soon !

PeatBog Faeries

Mercredi passé, nous avons découvert la salle de concert de Cambridge : "The Junction" ainsi qu'un super groupe écossais : Peatbog Faeries. Ils savaient mettre l'ambiance. Par contre, j'ai découvert que je ne comprenais rien à l'accent écossais! Guillaume et moi avons vraiment eu l'impression d'entendre un langage inconnu avec un accent Flamand et des mots d'Anglais par ci par là. Assez incroyable à entendre!

On Wednesday we discovered the concert hall of Cambridge : "The Junction" and also a great Scotish band : Peatbog Faeries. The ambiance was great.

I discoverd too that I was unable to understand the Scotish accent that looks for me and Guillaume as a weird langage with a Flamish accent and some English words. Unbelievable to hear that !

Hier j'ai mis 2H pour arriver de la gare jusqu'à chez moi !

1) Nous somme arrivés à la gare de Cambridge à 3pm. Guillaume était en vélo et devait aller travailler donc il m'a laissé tous les sacs. Moi je comptais rentrer avec le bus qui met normalement 20 min jusqu'à chez moi. Seulement voilà... J'ai attendu le Bus City 3 durant 1 heure et il n'est jamais arrivé. Vive les Bank Holliday ! ( bank holliday= congé légal... rien avoir avec les banques !)

Vous savez comment c'est : on attend ... on se dit que le bus va arriver, surtout si on part ... Mais, finalement, je n'ai plus respecté la loi de la vexation car au bout d'une heure d'attente par un temps de chien avec mes 1000 paquets je n'en pouvais plus.

2) J'ai pris un Taxi. Mais arrivé à mis chemin, j'ai dû descendre car la circulation était trop dense et ça m'aurait coûté le double du prix de d'habitude.. J'en ai quand même eu pour 7£ -le prix que je paye pour rentrer chez moi normalement- alors que cette fois, je n'étais qu'à la moitié du chemin ! J'ai donc perdu mon temps et mon argent !

3) Le Taxi m'a déposé près du centre commercial et avec mes 1000 paquets, je me suis mise à marcher. Il n'y avait plus que ça à faire. Je n'avais jamais vu autant de traffic à Cambridge. Je pensais que les gens se reposaient les jours de congé mais apparemment pas... Tout Cambridge avait décidé de faire ses courses !

4) Tant qu'à faire, me suis-je dis, j'ai besoin de vivres - l'expérience du passé m'a apprise que mon frigo n'est pas toujours plein au retour de vacances ; ) - et je suis donc allée chez Asda... J'ai tapé tous mes sacs dans un caddie et je suis allée faire mes courses.

5) Ayant acquis du brol en plus, je suis finalement rentrée chez moi avec le caddie que j'ai abandonné un peu avant chez moi (je sais c'est honteux). J'ai dû faire les derniers mètres à pieds en traînant tous mes paquets.

Et enfin, oh miracle, j'étais chez moi à 5pm !

Pour vous remettre dans le contexte, je n'avais pas mangé depuis le matin, j'étais affamée et en plus le temps était dégueux.

ps : Heureusement, la maison était très propre quand je suis rentrée (pour de vrai) et il y avait une pizza au congel. Merci collocs ! : )

Yesterday, my journey lasted 2 hours from the station to my place !

1) We arrived at the Cambridge station at 3pm. Guillaume had his bike and had to go to work, so he gave me all the luggages. I planned to go home by bus (normally 20 min from the station to my place). But instead of that easy plan... I was waiting for the Bus City 3 during 1 hour and the bus 's never arrived. Thanks Bank Holliday !

You know what is it : you wait ... because you know that the bus will arrive if you leave (It's always like that !)... But finally I fucked the Murphy law because I was to upset still staying there with all my belongings under the rain after 1 hour !

2) I took a Taxi but when I arrived at the middle of my trip , I quited because the traffic was too dense and the taxi would cost me too much money. I paid £7 -price that I usually pay for an entire taxi travel from the station to my place - althought this time, I was just at the middle of my travel for this price. So I lost my time and my money !

3) The Taxi dropped me next the commercial center and I begun to walk with all my luggages. It was the only solution. It was completely crazy, I 've never seen so many cars in the street. I thought that the people was resting on the bank holliday but apparently not... All Cambridge had decided to go shopping !

4) Because I was there, I decided to go shopping too - in the past, I learned that my fridge was not always full when I came back from Holliday ; ) - So I went to Asda... I put all my luggages in a caddie and did my shopping.

5) After that, I went back home with the caddie ( I had too many heavy things to carry) that I left on the roadside a bit before arriving to my place (I know, that is a shame). I had to walk the last metters dragging my packages. And, Oh miracle, I was to my place at 5pm!

Just to let you know the context... I was starving because I hadn't eaten since the morning and the weither sucked !

ps : Fortunatley, the house was very clean when I came back (really) and there was a pizza in the freezer. Thank you, housmates : )

Such a wonderfull weekend !

That's a while that everybody in the house was considering it and today, we 've made it ! We built our garden ! Will, Guillaume and I took advantage to this shiny sunday to build it and it was great ! Find the pictures in attachment. It was really funny to see geeks doing something physical as gardening but their work was great! ; )

Now, we just have to wait the growing of the vegetables ! Wait and see ...

Quel merveilleux weekend !

Ca fait un bout de temps que tout le monde à la maison avait envie de construire un potager et aujourd'hui, on l'a fait ! Nous l'avons construit notre potager ! Will, Guillaume et moi avons tiré avantage de ce dimanche ensoleillé pour le faire et c'était super comme vous pouvez le voir sur les photos ci-jointes. C'était bien comique de voir des geeks en train de faire des travaux physiques mais ils se sont super bien débrouillés ; )

Maintenant, nous devons juste attendre que les légumes poussent ! Advienne que pourra ...
