WINDSOR

Pour la St Valentin  Guillaume et moi nous sommes offerts un petit weekend bien sympathique à Windsor. Je ne peux que vous conseiller d'y aller et pour se faire, voici un  petit compte rendu du voyage et les bonnes adresses. 

For the St Valantine, Guillaume and I went to Windsor for a very nice little weekend. I really recommand you the visit of Windsor and that's why I'll do a little summary of our journey and give you the good addresses. 

Hôtel :

Nous avons pris un hôtel 4 étoiles certes un peu cher  (132 £ la nuit/ Chb double +petit déjeuner) mais qui valait franchement le coup. 

Premièrement il est super bien situé : à 200 m de la gare de Windsor Elton River.

Deuxièmement, c'est un SPA en même temps qu'un hôtel (relaxation assurée!). 

Troisièmement, dans le prix, sont compris, outre le divin petit déjeuner dans une  baie vitrée avec vue sur la Tamise, l'accès au petit sauna et au jacouzi extérieur ainsi  qu'à la salle de sport. 

Quatrièmement, l'Hôtel est magnifique et le personnel très agréable.

Cinquièmement, après le check out de 11 heure le lendemain matin, on peut laisser nos affaires gratuitement à la réception de l'hôtel ; ce qui est un point non négligeable quand on veut encore visiter toute la journée. 

We choosed an hotel 4 stars a bit expensive (132£ for the double room/ 1 night + Breakfast) 

but I really recommand  you it because it was just great !

  First of all, the localisation is perfect ( 200 m from the Windsor Elton River Station).

  Secondly, this hotel is also a SPA (It's great to relax yourself).

  Thirdly, in the price are included : the access to a little sauna, an outside jacouzi and a gym/sport place.

  Fourthly, the hotel is splendid and the personnal really polite and welcoming.

  Fifthly, after the check out (11AM), you can let your suitcases for free at the reception of the hotel 

  what is  a good point when you want to visit all the day.

Visite : 

Le mieux est bien sûr d'avoir un guide avec soi ( le Guide vert est très bien pour ça ).

Mais en gros, Windsor n'est pas une grande ville et tout est regroupé près du château, 

qu'on ne saurait manquer. 

The best is to have a travel book with you but Windsor is not complicated. It is a small 

town where everything is in the center near the castle. 

1) Le château de Windsor :

    ( The Windsor Castle )

 Il faut compter 3H pour voir le château. C'est pourquoi nous l'avons visité le dimanche matin.

Je vous recommande de le visiter à ce moment là car comme ça il n'y a pas trop de monde. 

La visite du château coûte 15,50£ et on reçoit un super audioguide en français. Les appartements 

royaux sont magnifiques. Parfois comme ils sont utilisés encore aujourd'hui par la reine d'Angleterre 

ils ne sont pas ouverts au public, mais il faut tenter de se renseigner pour aller un jour où on peut les voir. 

Le dimanche il y a juste un petit point négatif ; c'est qu'on n'a pas accès à la chapelle St Georges 

à moins qu'on aille à l'office à 17h30. 

Le ticket nominatif est valable un an mais il faut le faire cacheter à la sortie pour que ça entre en 

application. 

Ce château fort est immense et magnifique et maintenant que je l'ai vu je ne peux pas concevoir

l'idée qu'on aille jamais le voir au moins une fois dans sa vie. 

 You need 3 hours to visit the Windsor Castle. I recommand you to visit it on Sunday morning 

because it is quiet. The visit of the castle cost 15.50£ and we receive an audioguide included in 

the price. The State Appartements are wonderfull. Sometimes you can't see its because the 

Queen Elisabeth is in her appartements. Then you need to get information to know if you

 can have access to all the castle place or not before going to visit the castle. It would be a 

shame to miss this appartements. However, a negative point to visit the castle on Sunday is the 

fact that the St Georges Chappel is closed. You can only see it at the office at 5.30PM. 

The tickets are valid one year but you need to seal it. 

This Castle is huge and really wonderfull. Now I've seen it, I can't imagine live my life without have 

never seen it. 

2) Se balader :

 (Walking)

Il y a plein de rues commerçantes aux alentours  du château, de vieilles rues 

et quelques belles églises. Allez aussi jeter un coup d'oeil au grand parc derrière

 le château ou devrais-je dire la grande allée qui mène à l'arrière du château. C'est impressionnant!

There are a lot of shops around the castle, some old streets and beautifull churchs. 

Go until the great park behind the castle too (that's a kind of huge path that arrive

 to the castle gate and it is quite impressive ! )

N'oubliez pas non plus de faire un saut jusqu'à Elton College qui n'est pas mal 

mais bien moins beau que les collèges de Cambridge

Don't forget to go to Elton College. That is not spectacular.That is less pretty than Cambridge colleges.

3) Comment y aller de Londres ?

 (How to go to Windsor from London)

EN TRAIN ! Vous devez partir de la gare de Waterloo. Si vous venez de Cambridge il faut prendre 

le métro de King Cross à Waterloo et si vous venez de Bruxelles il faut prendre le métro de St Pancras jusqu'à Waterloo. 

Ensuite c'est simple ; 1 heure de train jusqu'au terminus : Windsor Elton River. 

Attention il y a 2 gares à Windsor ne pas se tromper ! 

Sur place tout est si proche qu'on ne fait que marcher. 

BY TRAIN ! You have to leave from Waterloo station. If you come from cambridge you need to take the subway

from King Cross to Waterloo station and if you come from Brussels, you need to take the subway from St Pancras 

to Waterloo. After, that is easy : one hour by train to Windsor Elton River (the terminus).

Pay attention because there are 2 stations in Windsor !

In Windsor just walk because everything is very closed to each other.
